Some country pubs look idyllic from the outside but the interior disappoints - either stark and overly modernised or just lacklustre. Not so The New Inn. It's chocolate box on the outside and just as yummy on the inside. The pub is a fascinating 13th century, thatched building, set by a very pretty brook which meanders alongside the lovely pub garden. The bar is low ceiling, beamed (with old ships timbers), with two inglenook fireplaces and 'The Captain', the pub's very own parrot! Dinner ingredients are locally sourced, from Devon beef to pub faves such as fish and chips. Breakfast is generous and with lots to chose from, inc kippers and the traditional 'full English'. The rooms at The New Inn are unusual given their size - they are very spacious and tastefully furnished, not pokey as you'd normally expect from rooms at an Inn. The en-suite bathrooms are recently refurbished, the beds are comfy and all is spotlessly clean. What's more, all the rooms have lovely views over the pretty village. Owners Mark and Teresa make you feel very welcome, they can't do enough for you and they look after this wonderful ancient building as well as they look after their guests. Do visit The New Inn and help keep this gem in business.

Everything: room, food, staff, location (eventually!). My satnav was unable to differentiate between a narrow track and a navigable road, so plan your journey carefully, taking note of the Inn's instruction. The room was lovely, bright, and airy, with top quality bedding on a large comfortable bed. Big TV. Tea, coffee, and infusions aplenty, refurbished daily. We had a very friendly welcome, which continued throughout our stay. Great breakfast included, with a good choice of cooked meal as well as fruit, cereal, toast etc. Very cosy bar / restaurant with resident parrot. You won't fail to enjoy the experience of staying at Th0e New Inn.

Lots of character, large pub / restaurant with loads of seating. Best selection of drinks I've seen in any pub in years! Food was nice, my wife said the pie was the best she had ever had in her life! I found the bed ok, my daughter said it wasn't great, but she's a teenager so ...? Personally I found the staff (including the owner) all friendly, they were very busy and a couple of customers were getting frustrated but they were understaffed, which is common down that way of the UK, and you need to accept this when traveling that way. Personally we like it and we all want to go stop there again

The inn was located in a very quaint quiet village. The room was spacious, charming and tastefully decorated. The bed was extremely comfortable making for a wonderful nights sleep. No stone was left unturned with what one would require to make for a comfortable stay including the information book for guests. Very thorough and informative. The hosts were charming. Dinner and breakfast delicious served downstairs in the historic inn.

Lovely place, great service, really excellent food. Charming quiet location, the building is 723 years old - beautiful thatched old inn. Despite its age, its name seems misleading, but there was apparently once an even older inn in Coleford. The parrot is a nice bonus, the Captain is a star of the pub. Excellent conversations with the owners too, they were lovely people and clearly really care about their guests. Highly recommended.
